Trade fair for assembly and handling

Beckhoff will present its PC- and EtherCAT-based automation solutions for assembly and handling technology at Motek 2011, which takes place from 10 to 13 October in Stuttgart, Germany. Modular and finely scalable in performance, PC-based control from Beckhoff covers all requirements for the control and monitoring of the entire process chain of individual processing machines as well as complete production lines. One of the main features of this year’s trade fair presentation is the extension of the compact drive technology.

PC Control for assembly and handling
Compact drive solutions up to 5 A directly in the Bus Terminal
For the compact drive technology, Beckhoff focuses on modularity and scalable performance. The connections in the format of Bus Terminals (IP 20) support AC and DC motors, stepper motors and – as a new item – also servomotors. EtherCAT Box Modules (IP 67) for stepper and DC motors are available for use without control cabinets. Integration into the I/O system simplifies cabling and commissioning considerably and reduces space requirements and costs. EL7201 EL7041
TwinCAT 3: modular automation of assembly lines
Assembly lines are just as modular as the
new runtime environment of TwinCAT 3.
With TwinCAT 3, the developer can make
use of a large number of existing modules
and combine them in a modern
development environment based
on Microsoft Visual Studio® to form
new modules or entire
control programs. Both the
IEC 61131-3 automation languages
and C and C++ are available. Additional
development tools such as Matlab®/Simulink®

High-precision measuring terminals
EtherCAT Terminals unite maximum performance with maximum accuracy and make special modules redundant due to the seamless integration of the high-end measurement technology in the automation solution. The low measuring error increases the signal acquisition quality, while the high resolution improves the control quality. New items are high-precision thermocouple and weighing terminals. EtherCAT servo drives
For the middle and upper performance range, the AX5000 Servo Drive series with outputs up to 118 KW provides a wide range of products, including the servo motors. The AX5000 enables flexible motor selection and can be combined with synchronous, linear, torque and asynchronous motors.

Universal engineering concept and scalable safety runtime
In TwinSAFE, Beckhoff offers a safety solution that is scalable in terms of both software and hardware. A 100 % software solution is available in TwinCAT Safety PLC.
With a safety PLC running on the Industrial PC,
the same performance that is available for the
standard controller can also be used for the
safety technology.

TwinCAT 3 also contains a new engineering concept for safety applications, which increases flexibility through the free choice of programming languages: in addition to the familiar function block diagram language (FBD), programming can also be accomplished in the high-level language C. TwinCAT 3
